As of October 2019, the Association for Play Therapy (APT) initiated a new set of rules for getting to be a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). There are requirements for specialized instruction, supervision/consultation and play therapy experience. These requirements are spaced over 3 different phases. We have created a document to show how the LEAPT guidelines for certification in Adlerian Play Therapy align with these new rules. While working toward your LEAPT certification, you can simultaneously work on becoming a Registered Play Therapist. The LEAPT guidelines have fewer hours of instruction, consultation, and play therapy experience than APT requirements, so you will have to supplement the instruction, supervision/consultation, and play therapy experience—with either additional courses and supervision on Adlerian play therapy or in some other approach to play therapy. If you are interested in how LEAPT can contribute to your efforts to becoming a RPT, check out the comparison table in this link: LEAPT Alignment with NEW APT rules
